Menorrhagia is a medical term for menstrual periods with abnormally heavy and prolonged bleeding sometimes with large clots that require change of pads in less one hour and with severe pain, women and girls with it lose about 80 millimeters compared to 60 millimeters in 7 days for normal menstruation, people in and around the kingdom have a myth that girls and women with it are abnormal and cursed, research has it that out of every 20 women 1 has menorrhagia, focus being put on menstruation only, girls with such heavy bleeding face stigmatization, discrimination, violence or even used for cultural ri, the story of pastor Bujingo embarrassing her wife Teddy Bujingo on a heavy menstrual bleeding condition on live, clearly shows violence and discrimination these women and girls go through.
Training Women and Girls in Making Sanitary Pads
A project funded by the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) is contributing much on responding to violence, stigma and discrimination on women and girls living with menorrhagia the project is changing community perceptions and attitudes on women and girls with menorrhagia our work mobilized survivors of menorrhagia for medical assistance and for psycho-social support the project increases women and girl's knowledge on bodily and health rights and empowered women and girls to exercise their rights
